On-Board Lessons
When your class visits Maritiman, students step straight into real maritime environments. They follow in the footsteps of the people who lived, worked and served at sea. Our educator-led lessons use these authentic settings to create engaging, experience-based learning that connects directly to the Swedish curriculum.
Lessons at Sea
Water Experiments (ages 6–9)
Discover the magic of water through real experiments.
In our onboard science lab, students explore the properties of water through simple hands-on experiments. They work with questions, hypotheses, observations and conclusions, and finish by writing a short lab report.
Curriculum connection: Science, ages 6–9. Simple field studies and experiments.
Marine Litter (ages 10–12)
A concrete environmental lesson about the sea and our impact.
We investigate how litter reaches the ocean, what happens to it, and which everyday choices influence the marine environment. Students reflect, discuss and work with real examples from local waters.
Curriculum connection: Chemistry, ages 10–12. Environmental impact and recycling.
Preparing for Peace (ages 10–12)
Ethical dilemmas in a maritime setting.
On board our military vessels, students engage with moral questions and practise seeing issues from multiple perspectives. The goal is not to find the “right” answer, but to think critically, ask questions and listen to others.
Curriculum connection: Religious Education, ages 10–12. Moral questions and ethical concepts.
Is a Third World War Around the Corner? (ages 13–15)
Historical parallels and today’s security landscape.
Using the destroyer Småland and the submarine Nordkaparen as learning environments, we discuss world affairs past and present. Students practise identifying connections, weighing arguments and understanding complex societal issues.
Curriculum connection: Social Studies, ages 13–15. Reasoning, perspectives and connections.
