Monitor Sölve 150 years!
In 1875, the monitor Sölve was launched. After a long life as both a military vessel and a civilian oil barge, this historic treasure now resides at Maritiman in Gothenburg.
Sölve is one of the few preserved monitors in the world. To commemorate her 150th anniversary, we are showcasing her interior—you can take a look inside the cabin and the captain’s quarters to see how the crew lived and worked on board. Here, you can also explore information and drawings depicting Sölve’s design as an armored vessel. Take the opportunity to join a guided tour of Sölve as well. John Ericsson’s monitor and its historical significance are closely linked to the era of armored ships in the Swedish Navy.
