The end of the line - 109 years of military service

This season’s exhibition tells the story of military service and we also get to see the everyday lives of two of the very last conscripts before compulsory military service was abolished in 2010. The exhibition also looks at the debate on military service that flared up after the 1968 left-wing movement, the era of military preparedness during the Second World War and the international efforts of the Swedish Armed Forces. As a visitor, you can actively reflect on what you feel and think yourself about issues relating to military service – a subject that is highly topical once again, as enrolment and compulsory military service was reintroduced in Sweden in 2017.
