A patrol boat is a small warship with the main task of surveillance over Swedish territory. The ships are equipped with weapons to ward off any landings or enemy submarines.
The Hugin was built in 1978 at Bergens Mekaniske Verksteder in Norway, and was retired from service in 2001 when the 18th patrol boat division was disbanded. The Hugin was the first patrol boat in a series of 16, and was one of the battle fleet’s light surface battleships. She had immense fire power in relation to her modest size and was used in the navy for antisubmarine, minelaying, escort and reconnaissance missions. The Hugin was also used for civilian surveillance and sea rescue operations.
