Fire boats are used in ports to extinguish fires on boats and in warehouse buildings. They are often fitted with strong water cannons that can reach the fire from a safe distance.
About Flodsprutan II
Flodsprutan II was delivered in 1931 by Lindholmen Motala AB to the City of Gothenburg. She replaced the old steam-powered fire boat from 1908 and was in active service for 40 years. Her tasks comprised fighting fires on ships and in buildings in the port area. In 1971 she was placed on reserve, and in 1986 she was donated to Maritiman as a museum ship.
Today the Flodsprutan II, to the delight of visitors, boasts functioning machinery and water cannons with an impressive range of 90 metres
